Lord Anjeneyar Jeyanthi - Jan 10th 2013

"As an ardent devotee of our Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy, we all know our Guru Raghavendra Swamy was a devotee of Lord Anjeneyar and if you see in Mantralayam, our Baghavan's Moola Bridavanam will be just opposite to Lord Anjeneyar statue which was installed by our Baghavan Guru Raghavendra swamy"

The first important Hindu festival for 2013 will be our beloved Lord Anjeneyar Jeyanthi which falls on Jan 10th. Lord Anjeneyar, the vanara GOD and the ardent devotee of Lord Rama
is a powerful GOD and symbol of strengh and energy. Lord Anjeneyar will be able to assume any form at will and wield rocks , move mountains etc. Lord Anjeyneyar is workshed as a deity with super power and ability to conquer evil sprits.

There is a beleif that before Ramayanam period, several divine souls came to earth and modified the bodies of ape through evolution method so they can play the roles of vehicles for divine souls and that is how Vanara race with reddish orange color was estabilished before Ramayanam period.

Usually in southern part of india , Lord Anjeneyar Jeyanthi will be celebrated during the month of "Marghazi". Marghazi is so sacred month where Lord Krishna had also mentioned in Baghavat Gita that among months, he will be the Marghazhi ("மாதங்களில் நான் மார்கழி " ).

As per our hindu puranas, Lord Anjeneyar was born on Marghazi month new moon day (Amavasya) with Moolam natchathiram. This is how Lord Anjeneyar jeyanthi is calculated. In 2013, Moola natchathiram falls on Jan 10th and Amavasya falls on Jan 11th. However birthdays are calculated as per natchathiram and not as per day, hence in 2013, Jan 10th will be celebrated as Lord Anjeneyar jeyanthi.

Also per our Hindu puranas, Lord Anjenyar was born during the early morning of sun-rise and hence prasadams will be given to Lord during that time.

Workshipping Lord Anjeneyar will help in gaining power and get ridding of fear in life.
There is a very strong beleif that during the course of 7.5 yrs of Sanipeyarchi, workshipping Lord Anjeneyar will solve all our issues as Lord Sani will not give trouble to Lord Anjeneyar's devotees.

So if you have time, pls. workship Lord Anjeneyar and get his blessings. Even a min of heartful workship will give huge benefits.

"Wishing all my readers a very Happy New year and hope in 2013 most of us will make some attempt to live in the right spritual direction and get the blessings of our Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy. "
"As our Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy says without right living, right thinking will not come, so lets all make an attempt to lead a right living in 2013."

Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy - Mrithika Brindavanam in Kanchipuram

Couple of days back, I had to visit the temple town Kanchipuram which is close to Chennai.
I visited lot of temples and will start posting those in my
http://goppuradarisanam.blogspot.com
in next few weeks.

Before my visit to Kanchipuram, I made sure to check if there is any Mrithika Brindavanam
to our beloved Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy. I found the address in the net and planned
to go there to visit our Mutt.

The Mutt is managed by Sri Uttaradi Mutt and it has Mrithika Brindavanam to our beloved
Guru Baghavan Raghavendra Swamy and Sri Satya poorna Swamy of Uttaradi Mutt.

The address of the Mutt is at
Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt
Veghavathi Street,
Vishnu Kanchee
Kanchipuram - 603 501

The Mutt is very close to Sri Varadaraja Swamy temple in Vishnu Kanchee. Once you come out
of Varadharaja Swamy temple go towards left side and take 2nd left. In few metres we can
find the Mrithika Brindavanam of Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy.

In the temple, there is a old Archarya who was very plesent and explained about the temple.
As per Acharya, this Mutt is almost 250 years old.

The main sanctum has the Mrithika Brindavanam of our Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy and
Sri Sathya poorna Swamy.

See the below picture. It has Lord Rama on the top, Lord Anajeneya, Lord Prahalada and then
Mrithika brindavanam.

The Mutt is also well maintained and clean. The Mutt also has the large painting of
Panjamukhi Anjeneyar.

At the backside of the Mutt, we have Panchamukhi Anjeneyar Statue,
There is pillar close to Panchamukhi Anjeneyar status and on the three sides of the pillar
we Lord Narashimhar in sitting pose, Lord Krishna in standing pose and Lord Krishna in
dancing pose.

The Mutt also has a Tulasi Madam well maintained.

Whenever you plan to visit Kanchipuram and Vardharaja swamy temple, please plan to visit Mrithika Brindavanam of Guru Baghavan Raghavendra Swamy and get his abundance blessings for this entire janma

Goppuradarisanam

I had some personal situation and for a certain period of time I was not able to post any articles in this blog. Kindly apologize me for this. I still strongly believe that this situation is due to my previous karma and I have to live with that.

Still my heart and soul will be with my Baghavan Sri Raghavendra Swamy. I strongly believe that I was able to do my duty in my difficult situation only because of my Guru's blessings. Else I would be carrying all these for several births.

I will be active in posting blogs in few weeks time and thanks to all who have been visiting my blogs even though I am not adding any new posts.

In the meantime, due to my current situation, I am in my hometown and visited couple of temples. Thought to capture all my temple visits as a blog, however I do not want to add my temple visits post in this blog as I wanted to have this blog only for my Guru Baghavan Sri Raghavendra Swami.

I have added another blog named "Goppuradarisanam". You can visit this blog at

http://goppuradarisanam.blogspot.com

I will update the Goppuradarisanam blog only when I visit temples, however this blog is for my Guru and I will definitely try to do as much posts as I can that would benefit the readers.

Significance of Ekadashi

This post has been very long due. For all Vishnu bakthas Ekadashi is a very special day. In my early
days of my life as kid, I will be very exited for Mohini Ekadashi. At those days, I was aware of only
Mohini Ekadashi, the reason is, it falls in apr - may timeframe of the year which is usally annual holidays of school period. During those vacation period, I will be in my native Kanchipuram and we have a temple near to our house where we usually go around 1 PM in the afternoon to see Mohini Avatara of Lord Perumal after which we get puliyodharai and curd rice as prasadam.

But there is lots and lots of significance for Ekadashi and its vratas. Some of the regular visitors to my blog will be wondering why I am posting this in a blog which is very specific to Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy.

Before our Guru's Brindavan Prevesha, Guru spoke few words to the bakthas and during the speech our beloved Baghavan mentioned the following

"Another facet of right living is performing right rituals and observing fasts. Fasting on Ekadashi is compulsory for everyone. Both men and women belonging to all walks of life have to observe this. Those who give up this will always have the doors of the Lord’s home closed. This is what the shastras declare."

Hence I wanted to have this post in my blog.

In a month, we will have 2 Ekadashi's. One is call Sukla Pakshi Ekadashi and other one is called Krishna Pakshi Ekadashi. This is determined by moon's position. When the moon is closest to earth it is called Krishna Paksha Ekadashi and when the moon is far away from the earth, it is called sukla paksha Ekadashi.  During Adikka masa there will be 3 Ekadashi's in a month. ( Adikka masa will come once in 3 years and infact in 2012 we have Adika masa )

In Mantralaya during Ekadashi, the moola brindavan will not be decorated and there will not be any neivedya to our Baghavan. Only on Dwadashi, next day, there will be Neivedya for our Baghavan.

Usually during Ekadashi, key vrata is not to take any food and water for 24 hrs and finish the Ekadashi vrata on Dwadashi ( next day ).

The priests who are in Mantralaya will not even speak and will be on Mouna Vrata during Ekadashi's

Each and every Ekadashi has its own name and significance. There are different benefits for each Ekadashi and overall fasting on Ekadashi will destroy and free everyone from their sins.

Lord Vishnu granted this boon to Ekadashi and hence this vrata has so significance.

In my next post, I will include more details on who Ekadashi is and why Lord Vishnu granted this boon ...

For now lets try to fast during Ekadashi's. Mantralayam has developed an panchanga app and maintain a website which lists the Ekadashi Vrata days. You can also follow this link for 2012 Ekadashi vrata dates.

Guru Raghavendra Stotra - Very auspicious and powerful stotra. I had written couple of posts on this stotra and its meaning. Guru Raghavendra subrabatham - This is one of my favorites. Specially for the voice of PBS.

Day 4 - Madhya aradhana pictures from Mantralayam

Grand celebration of 2012 Madhayaaradhana for our beloved Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy was celebrated in Mantralayam on Aug 4th. Lakhs of devotees witnessed the abhisekam and Ratha seva. Attaching the pictures from Madhya aradhana from Mantralayam. Day 4 - Madhya Aradhana to our beloved Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy

Today , Aug 4th is the Madhya Aradhana to our beloved Baghavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy.

Though the pooja is offered to Sri Rayara brindavana in all the four sides every day, only the front side will be decorated with flowers and will be kept open for Darshana. Madhya Aradhana is the only day on which one can have darshana from all the four sides. But many devotees will remain unable to get such an opportunity for various reasons.

Aradhana means devotees expressing their bakthi, devotion, love, belief, faith , workship and divine rememberance of our Guru Bagavan Raghavendra Swamy. For our Guru, Aradhana means workship of Sri Hari, Sri Vayudevaru, Sri Rama, Sri Krishna, Sri Vedavyasa, Sri Madhavarcharya , Sri Vijayendra, Sri Sudheendrateertharu.

on the day, Guru performed pooja to moola ramaru with devotion. Interacted with all devotees and then offered Mantrakshate. Next day, Guru got up early and got ready for his Brindava Prevesha. Before his prevesha, Guru stated that "Devotees, the day had come and per wish of Sri Hari, I will have to disappear from your sight physically. Do not worry about this, Sri Yogendrateertharu will continue the mutt tradition and take care of you. Though I am in Mantralaya Brindavana, you can call me any time anywhere. I will be there to protect you. Sri Jaiteertharu granthhas and my writtings are here to guide and protect you. Follow them with faith and beleif. Have faith in Sri Hari Vayu and Guru. You will be blessed in life."

Rightway after Brindavan Prevesha, Guru did a miracle by completing the Guru Stotra sung by dearest devotee Appanacharya by saying the stotra from Brindavana. He completed the stotra with "SAAKSHEEHAYASTOTRAHEE" which was heared by all devotees gathered there.

At this time, during Madhya Aradhana time, I would like to post Guru's final speech before Brindavan prevesha. read the same by Clicking here

Guru Stotra is very auspicious because of three reasons,

- This stotra was authored by Guru's dearest devotee Appanacharya who came running to see Guru during Brindavanam Prevesham
- Sung exactly during the Brindavanam Prevesham of our Guru
- Guru, himself completed the stotram stating "SAAKSHEEHAYASTOTRAHEE".

Pls recite Guru Stotram today by Clicking here

Guru Rayaru will bless us all. Be with true devotion and faith and he will be there to protect us all.

Below are some songs on Guru. All these are in Kanada. Will try to post something in tamil in future

Aug 1st - Day 1 - Guru's Aradhana

The 341st Aradhana Mahotsava Celebrations have begun at Mantralaya today. This year Aradhana is a celebration of seven days at Mantralayam. The present pontiff of the Mutt His Holiness Sri Swamiji performed all religious deeds which have been the tradition. This is so auspicious to all the devotees of Guru Raghavendra Swamy. On the same day 341 years ago, on Shraavana Bahula Dwiteeya Guru Baghavan Raghavendra Swamy went into deep meditation on Sri Hari and Sri Vayu and from that day to till today, Guru has been answering all the prayers of devotees. Thanks to www.raghavendramutt.org for sharing the pictures

Rennovated Brindavana for 341st Aradhana

Attached are some of the pictures that shows how our rennovated Mantralayam Brindavana looks. Lot of devotees like me who are far away were happy to see the pictures. Thanks to www.raghavendramutt.org for sharing the pictures.

Dedicated Page for our Guru's 341st Aradhana

Aradhana to our beloved Guru RaghavendraTeertha Gurusarvabhoumaru has started in Mantralaya on Aug 1st. In Manatralaya, we are celebrating this as a 7 day festival. It was on the same day 340 years back our beloved Bhagavan Guru Raghavendra Swamy went into deep meditation on Sri Hari & Sri Vayu. From that day, our Guru has been sitting there to bless all his devotees. On this auspicious occassion, I sincerely surrender to our Bagavan Guru Raghavendra swamy to keep his blessing hand on me and all the devotees in the world. Irrespective of caste, location etc if we sincerely pray to Guru, he will be there rightaway to protect us. Each and every devotee will agree on this as everyone has seen his miracles and blessing in one way or the other.I have not been to our Guru's Aradhana celebration in Mantralaya before and definitely there are thousands and thousands of devotees like me who are far far away from Mantralaya physically but they are all there in Mantralayam mentally by thinking of our Guru Raghavendra theertha Gurusarvabhoumaru.

Guru will always be there to protect us each and every minute of this life and bless us the things that we need rather than what we wish. There is a difference in what we wish and what we need. Guru knows exactly what is required for each of us and provides them accordingly at right time. There may be instances where things may not happen as we wish, but Guru knows when and what to give at what time. There are few things that we need to face based on our deeds from previous birth and no one can stop that happening, but our Guru can minimize the impact of the deeds and protect us from the happenings. Guru will come to our rescue whereever we are and bless us , be with us in the day, afternoon, evening , night, while we sleep etc.

I have created a dedicated page "341st Aradhana of Guru ". I wanted to post all the key events , news , happenings , pictures etc that are focussed on our Guru's aradhana.

Sri Guru Raghavendra Mahimai - Book of 8 volumes

I was thinking of this post for some time, but somehow was not able to do it. As I have been posted in the previous blogs, I became a devotee of Guru Raghavendra Swamy in 2009. Lot of my troubles during that time had gone in few weeks after I became a devotee of Guru. From then on, I was trying to know more about our Guru. I came across this printers "Arumighuamman pathipagam". This is being owned by 'Amman Sathyanathan'. He is the owner and author of most of the books. They are publishing variety of spiritual books. Sathyanathan himself has experienced several miracles of our Guru and he started to pen books on our Guru Raghavendra Swamy. he has published 8 volumes of Guru Raghavendra Mahimai book. I have so far read 3 volumes and I have learnt a lot about Guru and our Mantralayam mutt.
By reading this book, we can know how much of effort and research the author had done on these books.
These books are so valuable and has all the details of Guru and the miracles performed by Guru which has been validated by author himself.

If any of you are really interested, I would definitely recommend to read this book. This comes in 8 volumes and in both Tamil and english. We can also buy and donate / gift this book to people who are interested to know more about Guru's life history, his Guru and Paramaguru, his miracles, his divine stotras and a lot. I really liked this book and wanted to share my experience to all devotees of our Guru.

Each volume has rare information of various Mrithika matha, stotras , etc. You can get more information in the below website Click here

Asahdha Ekadesi - Beginning of Chaturmasya

Tommarow ( Jun 30th ) is Padma Ekadesi which falls on fortnight of the month of Asahdha, between Jun - July period. This is also very important day as this indicates the beginning of Chaturmasya.

The term Chaturmasya means four months. The term Chaturmasya Vrata is a Vrata to be observed for a period of four months. But according to the Vedic dictum one ‘paksha’ or a fortnight is taken as one month, and traditionally the Vrata is observed only for two months.

In an year, the 6 months beginning from Ashadha are called Dakshinayana. 6 months beginning from Pushya are termed as Uttarayana. This period of one year for human beings is equivalent to 1 whole day(day/night) for the celestials (Devas). Pushya to Ashadha is the day and Ashadha to Pushya is the night for the Devas.

Deva-sayani, or Vishu-sayani, indicates the day when Lord Vishu goes to sleep with all the devas (demigods). It is said that after this day one should not perform any new auspicious ceremonies until Devotthani Ekadasi (Haribodhini (Probodhini) Devotthāni (Utthana) Ekadasi), which occurs during the month of Kartika (October - November), because the devas (demigods), being asleep, cannot be invited to the sacrificial arena and because the Sun is traveling along its Southern course (Dakshinayanam).

We all know the importance of Guru Stotra. Though there were several mp3 files, audio files, video files, pictures and blogs which had this stotra, I wanted to share this  as one of my early posts.

I am happy to share that this particular Guru Stotra post has been viewed by more than 1000 devotees.

Shri Lord Narashima Swamy Jayanthi - May 4th 2012

This is a very special week.May 2nd will be Mohini Ekadesi and May 3rd is Thursday which is very famous to our Guru Raghavendra Swamy and May 4th is Lord Narashima Jayanthi. Fasting on all three days
will be very special. I will post a separate post on Ekadesi fasting and its benefits.

This post is more of Lord Narashima Swamy Jayanthi. This was the 4th Avatara of Lord Vishnu which happend during Satya yuga. Narasimha Jayanti is observed on the 14th day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in Vaisakha month (April – May). It is believed that Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Narasimha on the day to destroy demon Hiranyakashipu.

Lord Narasimha was half man and half lion. Lord Vishnu took this avatara to destroy Hiranyakashipu to remove adharma. You can see more details about this in my earlier posts.

Shri Guru Raghavendra Swamy - Series 2
Shri Guru Raghavendra Swamy - Series 3

As we all know, per wish of Lord Baktha Prahalada,  Lord Vishnu appeared as Lord Narashima to destroy Hiranyakashipu. Lord Prahalada was none other than our Guru Raghavendra Swamy. This was said by our Guru Raghavendra Swamy to Diwan Venkana when our Guru requested Venkanna to bring a specific rock to build Brindavanam. Details of this can be found in the post Click here. Workshipping Lord Narashima and fasting on this day would be very special and it would get rid of all our sins and evils in our current life and previous births. Giving alms and perform annadanam on this day is very special.

Sri Vijayendra Teertharu ( has seen 2 avatara's of our Guru Raghavendra Swamy ( Vyasarajar and Guru Raghavendra swamy)) has written a sloka on Lord Narashima and reading this sloka everyday during santhya kalam will get rid of all evils in our life.

Miracle performed by Guru Raghavendra Swamy at Sankapura

Below is the miracle performed by Guru Raghavendra Swamy at Sankapura.

Thanks to http://raghavendramutt.org for sharing the below details. I am re-sharing the information in the below post.

********************************************************************************
Sankapura is one among 700 places where Sri Vyasaraja Teertha has consecrated idols of Sri Mukhya Prana. This temple is now situated at the outskirts of Sankapura village. (Gadwal Tq. of Mahaboob Nagar Dist. - Andhra Pradesh) The idol of Sri Hanuman is eye catchy. This was a favorite place of Sri Gopaladasaru. He did meditation for many years here and obtained Gayatri Sidhi. The peepal tree under which He did this achievement is still sheltering millions of birds and creatures.  Under this tree there established a Vishnupada creating a replica of Gaya Kshetra. Altogether these entire elements are giving an extraordinary divine atmosphere to this village, though it is a barren land.

The early morning sun-rays of 15th of April 2012 were welcomed here with Vedic Recitation in high tempo. Around 2 to 3 thousands of devotees witnessed a historical event at this place. This history was created under the benediction of His Holiness 108 Sri Suyateendra Teertha Sripadangalavaru by organizing a successful Samoohika Dharmopanayana (Charity Thread ceremony) at this sacred place. Around 100 Vatus took oath of Brahmacharya in this holy place and at the end His Holiness Sri Swamiji gave them all Narayana Mantra and Sri Raghavendra Ashtakshara Mantra Upadesha. Devotees from Hyderbad, Kurnool, Gadwal, Bengalooru, Anantapur, Manavi, Gulburga and other places participated in this program to seek blessings of Mantralaya Mahaprabhu Sri Rayaru. Students of our Vidyapeetha are direct responsible for successful rituals.

Everyone expressed happiness for such an opportunity and said they took it like they are performing function at their home! The credit of handling such a successful program goes to Sri Prahlada Yuva Mandala which is a sister organization of Srimatha for enthusiastic Maadhwa youths.

A miracle.
Arrangements of such a massive programme were ignited around 10 days before the commencement of Upanayana. Big pendals to accommodate around 4000 people including staff & Volunteers were erected early enough. There were two other pendals for Jnana Yajna & Kitchen set up. On 14th of March at midnight every one except volunteers were fast asleep. At an unfortunate moment an unforeseen storm hit this area followed by a big rain. An obvious tense was formed in organizers which could even end up in an embarrassing failure of programme. It rained about 15 minutes that made all the sheds to drench totally. Some of the walls of exterior pendals got collapsed partially. This incident created a frustration in crowd. But even at such chaotic circumstance the state of mind of His Holiness Sri Srigalu was very pacific. He politely instructed the organizers to gather in front of Sri Pranadevaru and chant Sri Raghavendra Stotra. Accordingly it was done. The first cycle of Chanting was just completed. What a wonder! The rain stopped in the very next moment and the storm turned up a breeze! Immediately volunteers took action to repair the broken walls. By grace of Sri Rayaru and Gopaladasaru everything was restructured within 20 mins! The Upanayana program started at 4.00 AM.

Astonishingly, the rain and storm were very much active till 6AM in the village and surrounding places! People arrived from other places on 15th morning experience the after rain effect throughout their way, but wondered for not seeing any symptoms of storm at Pranadevara Sannidhana.

While delivering the divine speech, Sri Swamiji described “this incident shows the mercy of Sri Rayaru. Everyone should indulge in sacred practices to avoid such natural intrusions”

Sri Guru Raghavendra Stotra - Youtube video with Mantralayam pictures

I have posted the Guru Raghavendra Swamy Stotra in my earlier posts. Since I had posted the Stotra in english, there might have been difficulties for few devotees on pronouncing the Sanskrit in right way.

Here I am attaching the Youtube video / audio link with Mantralayam pictures. I hope this is beneficial for our devotees.

As the scriptural authority says “apyachuto guru dvaaraa prasadakRut” it is very easy to please the Supreme Lord (Narayana) using guru as the channel. This is very obvious in the case of Gurusarvabhouma Sri Raghavendra teertha (Rayaru), the Kalpatharu (the divine tree that grants all wishes) of Kaliyuga. He grants the desires of supplicants without hesitation; devotees serving him with a pure heart are doubly blessed because he also removes their sins, blemishes and other shortcomings. People have experienced this in person and is something that great gyAnis have vouched for. The benefits of obtaining Rayaru’s grace have been profusely documented in religious works like Sri Raghavendra Vijaya, Sri Raghavendra stotra and hundreds of compositions by great saints.

The very venerable Srimat Sushameendra teertha, the present pontiff of the Matha, has reassured devotees on innumerable occasions that coming to Mantralaya is not mandatory to obtain Rayaru’s grace, it is enough if one performs devout service in one’s home by going around Rayaru’s picture while reciting Raghavendra Stotra. Even reciting “Sri Raghavendraya namah” with intense devotion is good enough to obtain his total grace.

There are many popular ways of serving Rayaru. One of the most common but very potent advices that you get from Rayaru’s devotees while seeking solutions for life’s numerous problems is, “ Go to Mantralaya and perform the Sankalpa Seva, Rayaru will definitely bless you”. Sankalpa means an oath or a resolution to do something, Seva is the service performed to a celestial being. In this case Sankalpa Seva involves the following steps:

Going to Mantralaya at a convenient time,
Obtaining darshana of (or viewing) Rayaru’s Brindavana,
Taking the oath to perform Seva in the prescribed manner
Performing the Seva while following some strict rules.
The number of devotees who have performed Sankalpa Seva in this manner and benefited from it is so huge that listing them is next to impossible. We are listing below 15 of the most frequently asked questions about Sankalpa Seva.
Q1. Who should take the oath to perform the service (Seva)?
Anybody who wishes to benefit from Sri Rayaru’s grace is eligible to take this oath.

Q2. Who will administer the oath to perform the Seva?
One of the archaks or volunteers will do this.

Q3. Is there any fee for administering the oath?
Since this is a major service that the Matha is performing for devotees, nothing more than a symbolic token of Rs. 5 is expected. This should be tendered at the offices of the Matha.

Q4. What are the ingredients that the devotees should bring for the oath taking ceremony?
There is nothing like ingredients in particular, but bringing the items given below will make your sankalpa easy.

Utensils to perform Achamana
A small plate
One new, unpeeled coconut
One coconut as a symbolic offering
Loose change as dakshina
Q5 .What is the correct time for performing Seva?
In the mornings between 5 and 8 AM, and in the evening between 4 and 5, are the most appropriate times for performing Seva.

Q6. How many times should the pradakshina (going around the Brindavana) be performed?
Based on one’s ability, one can choose from 5, 11, 14, 28, 54 times.

Q7. For how many days should the Seva be performed?
Based on one’s endurance, one can choose from 1, 3, 5, 7, 14, 21, 42 days.

Q8. What are the regulations governing the actual Seva?

The person taking the oath should bathe in the river twice, taking care to wet the head. A woman need to do it once only.
One should not use soap while taking bath.
One should not use wet cloths. Cloths which have been dried in Madi should be used for performing the Seva,
One should dress in a traditional manner, using a pancha-kache (five folds)
One should not use hair oil or any type of ointments; one should also not do any kind of make up or decoration
One should not have a haircut or shave in the days on which seva is being performed
One should not adorn one's hair with any flower, other than what has been offered to Sri Hari-Vayu-Guru
One should eat only once a day. In the night, milk or fruits can be consumed in moderate quantities.
Foods that have been cooked or fried or prepared in hotel should be avoided.
After the pradakshina is completed one should spend time by going through religious, pious works and avoid wasteful activities like idle gossip. Ladies should sing the compositions of Haridasas.
One should not sleep on a bed; however a chaape (a thin mattress made of fibre) can be used.
On Dwadashi and during the Dhanur masa, one can continue pradakshine after taking food.
Q9. Are there any regulations governing the pradakshine and namaskaara (prostration)?
Yes, the the pradakshine and namaskaara should be performed in the manner prescribed by religious scriptures. Devotees should keep the following aspects in mind while performing pradakshina during the Seva.

One should perform pradakshina 5 times around the Hanumanta icon in front of the brindavana
During each pradakshina, one should perform namaskaara 4 times, one on each side of the brindavana, with utmost devotion towards Sri Rama, Narahari (Narasimha), Krishna and Vedavyasa respectively.
One should do one namaskaara in front of Sri Vadeendra teertha’s brindavana too.
During the pradakshina time one should recite pious religious compositions like Sri Raghavendra stotra, Vayu Stuti, Dashaavatarastuti, Krishnaashtakam, Vishnu Sahasranama etc.
After performing the pradakshine in the main courtyard, one should also perform one pradakshine of the brindavanas of  Sri Sudharmeendra teertha, Sri Suvrateendra teertha, Sri Suyameendra teertha, Sri Sujayeendra teertha and the banyan tree.
Ladies should not peform sAshtanga namaskara wherein the entire body touches the ground. They should kneel and perform the namaskara.
Q10. Are there other ways of performing Seva to Rayaru?
Yes. As stated before, if one is sincere and devoted to Hari, Vayu and Rayaru, there are many ways of performing Seva to Rayaru. The following section lists some of the main ones:

Sitting in one place and reciting Sri Raghavendra stotra 108 times.
Hejje namaskara (Going around the Brindavana Sannidhana advancing one foot at a time and performing namaskara for each stride)
Urulu Seva – Rolling on the body and going around the Brindavana Sannidhana. (This is forbidden for women.)
Reciting Sri Raghavendra stotra 108 times while performing abhisheka for Rayara Brindavana with cow’s milk.
Going through religious works composed by great gyaanis; some of the popular ones are Sudha, Parimala, Sri Madhva Vijaya, Sri Raghavendra Vijaya etc.
In all of the above cases, the main ingredient is sincerity, pure heart and intense devotion.

Q11. One of our relatives is handicapped. Can we take the oath in his name and do the pradakshina?
Certainly. This is also acceptable to Rayaru. However, the person on whose behalf this Seva is being undertaken should be around.

Q12. One of our acquaintances told us that during the Seva period, Sri Rayaru appears in our dream and blesses us. Is this true?
Even though not many people can prove with absolute certainity that it was Rayaru himself who appeared in their dreams and blessed them, there is no doubt whatsoever that serving him with a pure heart and intense devotion will fetch his grace, maybe in a dream and sometimes even directly!

Q13. What is meant by ‘Poorna Phala”?
As stated earlier, at the beginning of the Seva the devotee should set aside a new, unpeeled coconut. After the completion of the Seva, this coconut is symbolically offered to Rayaru and returned with mantrakshate. This is called Poorna Phala.

Q14. What should be done with Poorna phala?
After receiving the holy coconut from the priest, one should handle it with great care and respect. It should not be kept on the ground or made impure in any way. It should be brought home and worshipped with devotion as it represents Rayaru’s blessings. Later it should be consumed (without cooking) in the company of close relatives.

Q15. What should be done after performing the Seva?
Since it is absolutely certain that Rayaru will bless you with fruits appropriate to the level of service performed, one should be patient until the desired result is obtained. In addition, all the discipline and devotion displayed during the Seva should be retained as much as possible, as long as possible. This is a sure way of obtaining Rayaru’s grace.

Sri Vadiraja Theertharu - Aradhana March 10th 2012

Vadiraja Theertharu was one of the key saints who preeched Madhawa philosophy. Though my blog is more of Guru Raghavendra Swamy, I wanted to post this blog on Vadiraja theertharu as he is close to our Guru Raghavendra Swamy's previous incarnation of Vyasa Rajaru. Vadiraja Theertharu's guru is Vyasa Rajaru. Vadiraja Theertharu was born somewhere around 1480 AD near Udipi. He lived on this earth for 120 years and went into Jeeva Brindavana 70+ years before my Guru Raghavendra Swamy. He is also beleived to be an incarnation of Adhisesha.

We can also say that he was there in both the incarnations of Shanghu Karna Devatha as Vyasa Rajaru and Guru Raghavendra Swamy. He was shisya to Vyasa Rajaru and most likely when he entered Jeeva Brindavana Guru Raghavendra Swamy was born in the earth, though he did not personally seen Guru Raghavendra Swamy, he was living in the earth during that period.

Sri Vadiraja theertharu was born to Ramabhatta and Gowridevi.

Once Sri Vaagisha Theertharu of Sri Vishnutheertha Mutt happened to visit the Village Ramabhatta and Gowridevi Dampathigalu begged the shrigalu to bless them with a child. Sri Vaageesha Theertharu blessed him with a condition that the child born to be handed over to the Mutt for upbringing. However parents were not willing to do this and requested Vaagisha Theertharu to help them. By seeing this, theertharu told them if the child happens to born outside the house, then they shall hand over to the Mutt, if not they can raise the child with them.
The couple agreed wholeheartedly thinking that the child will be born inside the house.
Nine months completed. On one day, Gowri was performing Tulasi Puja early in the morning. She saw some cows entering the garden which they own, and the cows started eating and destroying the garden. Gowri took a stick and chased the cows, moved quite a distance from the house forgetting the agreement with the Sri Vageesha Thirtharu. Suddenly her pregnancy pain started and she could not return home and delivered the child in the field itself. Immediately Sri Vaageesha Thirtharu was informed of the birth of the child and a golden plate was sent from the Mutt and the child was brought to the Mutt. The baby never touched the ground until it reached the Mutt. The baby was fed with the milk that had been offered to the deity as naivedya; and the parents named the boy as “Bhoovaraha”. Child learnt all skills and studied well right from his early days itself.  Sri Vageesha Theertharu told the parents that the services of the child is required for the prachara of Madhwa Tathwa.
Child learnt Veda, Vedanga, Madhwa Shastra etc from Sri Vageesha Theertharu. After seeing the child's vast knowledge and Bhakthi, he decided to give him Sanyasa at the age of 8 years and was given the name “Vaadiraja Theertha”. After some time, Sri Vageesha Theertharu entered Brundavana, then for further studies Sri Vadirajaru went to Sri Vyasarajaru ( previous incarnation of Guru Raghavendra Swami) in Hampi.

Sri Vadiraja theertharu established his mutt in Sode and this land was donated by a king. Hayagreeva Prasada was very famous and there is a history related to this with Sri Vadiraja theertharu. Once there was a land next to the mutt which was owned by a villager. He had sowed seeds in the land which had grown well and was ready for harvesting. One day when the villager came to his land, he saw some of the paddy field were destroyed. He was not sure and who did that and he thought to watch it on the night to see who is doing this. In the night, he saw a white horse coming from the Mutt to the field and had his food and moved back to the Mutt. The villager was suprised to see this and he was not sure whether to beleive his eyes and he tested this again on the following night and the same thing happened. Next day morning, he went to Mutt and informed Sri Vadirajar about this, Sri Vadirajar was suprised and he told the villager that there are no horses in the Mutt but he said Mutt will pay the damage to this since villager indicated the horse came from the Mutt. For this villager informed Sri Vadirajar that he will verify again tonight and come back to Mutt. What villager was stunned on what he saw that night. The same horse came and ate some of the dhal's planted in the field. However when the villager went there, he saw equal amount of gold in the field. He went back to Mutt to inform the same. Sri Vadirajar requested villager not to see this tonight and if he sees that he will loose his eyes. However villager did not heed to Sri Vadirajar's words and lost his eyes. Sri Vadirajar realized this was Hayagreevar who came in the form of horse and prayed to Hayagreevar to give back the eyes to the villager and requested him to have the food from him and not in the field. From this day, Hayagreevar will come in the form of a white horse and Sri Vadirajar will have the Hayagreeva prasadam on his head and Hayagreevar in horse form will place his front legs in the shoulders of Sri Vadirajar and have the food. You can also see this in the picture above.

Guru Raghavendra Swamy - Actual Birthdate as per english calandar

Recently we celebrated with devotion on our Guru's 412th Birthday on feb 29th 2012. In Mantralaya there was a celebration for 1 full week. As we all know Guru was born on a Phaalguna Suddha
Saptami. Most of us also know that Guru was born on 1595 and Phaalguna Suddha
Saptami falls on different day every year as per english calendar which we all follow unanimously.

I have been trying to find out the exact date of birth of our Guru Raghavendra Swamy as per english calendar. Atlast I was able to find it. In 1595, March 6th was the day when Guru Raghavendra Swamy was born which was Phaalguna Suddha Saptami.

We also know that Guru went into Brindavan in Mantralayam during the year 1671. The exact date is August 11th 1671. This day falls on Thursday which is Shraavana Bahula.

I was able to get these details from recent mantralayam series.

Life History of Baghavan Raghavedra Swamy series 6 - More details of King Bahlika

We all know Guru Raghavendra swamy had 3 previous incarnations before he born as Guru Raghavendra
Swamy.

They are Sangukarna Devatha -> Prahalatha -> Bahlika King -> Vyasa rajar -> Guru Raghavendra Swamy

There was little information was available on Bahileka king. As per the wish of Lord Vishnu , Prahalatha was born as king Bahileka in Dwapara Yuga ( during Mahabaratha period )

In those days, the entire India was ruled by great king called Barata and all the kings came after
him were refered to Barata dynasty which were running for several years. After which Kuru dynasty
came to the rule. Later Kuru dynasty was handled by both Soorya dynasty and Chandra dynasty.

In Chandra dynasty there was a great king named Pratipa who was ruling Hastinapura and he was celebrated across all 3 worlds. He had 3 sons namely Devapi, Bahlika and Santanu.

Santanu was one the great kings in Kuru vamsa and he had 8 sons. His eighth son was Bheeshma from where Mahabaratha started.

Devapi was the eldest son and  he had great energy , loved by his younger brothers, truthful in speech. However he was not able to become king because of the skin disease and hence he was not inherited to become king by the law. Hence Devapi became sage.

Bahlika, the second son of King Pratipa, abandoning his (paternal) kingdom he dwelt with his maternal uncle. Abandoning his father and brother, he obtained the highly wealthy kingdom of his maternal grandfather which is currently in the north western part of India. With Bahlika’s permission, Santanu, on the death of his father (Pratipa), became king of Kuru Kingdom.

Bahlika was so knowledgeable and powerful. He has learnt all the art of power and intelligence. Bheeshma usually consult his uncle Balhika to clear his doubts

Below are the details of the Kuru dynasty and their inheritances.

Pratipa -> Devapi (became a sage)
Pratipa -> Bahlika -> Somadatta -> Bhurisravas, Sala
Pratipa -> Santanu -> Bhishma
Pratipa -> Santanu -> Vichitravirya -> Dhritarashtra -> Kauravas
Pratipa -> Santanu -> Vichitravirya -> Pandu -> Pandavas

We all wonder why after Prahaladha , the next incarnation of Sangukarna devatha is King Bahlika.
During the period of Prahaladha, Sanghukarna devatha has gained so much of Punya which multiplied and gained the wealthiness to become a King in next Incarnation to enjoy the hapiness of the world. This
is also due to the blessing of Lord Vishnu during Vamana avatara. We all wonder how vamana avatara is related to Guru Prahalada. I will post another article just on this.

Due this wish and SanghuKarna devatha was born in Kuru vamsa and had the blessings to see Lord Krishna. Bahlika was truely a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and Lord Vayu. He made sure to sit and pray both Lord Vishnu and Lord Vayu everyday. Though he was a king, he was more inclined towards Bakthi than war. However since Bahlika was born in Kuru vamsa he was sticking with Gauravas in Kurushetra war, though he was not interested to be against Lord Krishna, he was not able to avoid that. This was also provided an opportunity to Bahlika to see Lord Krishna during Kurushetra war to get his blessings.

During the war, one day Bahlika king went to Pandavas and requested Bhima to kill him in the war. However Bhima did not agree to it and informed him how can he do that. During this time, Lord Krishna appeared there and this made King Bahlika happy and he bowed his head and got the blessings of Lord Krishna. Krishna informed Bhima that you can always attack and fight if King Bahlika is attacking him. When Bhima heard this from Krishna he agreed to it and said he will do so if King Bahlika is attacking him.

Next day after his regular prayers, King Bahlika went to Kurushetra war and he was attacking one of the pandavas fighters, during this time Bhima came in support of the fighter. King Bahlika realized that this would be the right time to get killed by Bhima and he started to attack Bhima. Bhima as promissed killed King Bahlika. For everyone it looked like Bhima killed King Bahlika through his weapon "gatha" however Bhima first stopped the air for King Bahlika which made Bahlika loose his life and fell before Bhima and then he pretended to use "gatha" to kill King Bahlika.

As in this avatara, Sangukarna devatha had  the blessings to enjoy the life of the king based on his punya that multiplied and also had the blessings of seeing Lord Krishna in dwapara yuga.

Now we all may wonder why King Bahlika wanted to get killed by Bhima. Bhima is none other than lord Vayu. Lord Vayu was the one who first indicated Sangukarna devatha that the curse on him by Lord Brahma is for some purpose and he will be with him in all his births. Lord Vayu was Hanuman in Ramayana , Bhima in Mahabaratha, Madhavacharya in Kaliyuga.

Mrithika of Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy and miracles of Guru's Mrithika

If you have been a devotee of Guru Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy, you would have heard about Mrithika.
Few years when I do not know much about Mrithika. Infact I was under the impression Mrithika is a sand which has been presevered from Guru Raghavendra's period.

Later stage I came to know that I was wrong but did'nt get the entire details of Mrithika. Before my visit to Mantralaya in 2011, I read a post in the internet that anyone can buy Mrithika from Mantralayam. So when I went to Mantralayam, I went and asked an Archakar about this in the Mutt. He informed me that I should not be asking like this loudly to everyone as this is so precious and will not be sold for monetary benefits. But he guided me to the right person and now I have a package of Mrithika with me.

For the benefits of everyone,

Mrithika is a mixture of sand and clay that gains sanctity when brought in the prescribed manner and spread on the Moola Brindavan. The earth of Mantralya itself is sacred since it is the place where Prahlad had lived and performed yaga, its holiness having been further enhanced by the power of Sri Raghavendra's austerities. click here to read the details on the holiness of Mantralaya.

From the garden of tulsi plaints behind the Moola Brindavan, Mrithika is brought with sanctity every year amidst playing of musical instruments and spread on the Moola Brindavan. On the Mrithika saligrams are also placed. This is called Mrithika Sangrahan. This is done annually on Ashad Purnima which usually falls on a full moon day during the month of Jul-August ( In 2012, it is on 3rd July )

The foremost procedure for installation of a Brindavan is, the Moola Mrithika from Sri Swami's Moola Brindavan at Mantralaya is brought with sanctity in order to sanctify the Brindavan to be installed. The pontiff of the Sri Math, while handing over the Mrithika to those connected with the installation of the Brindavan, blesses them and wishes them success. The Mrithika of Sri Raghavendra Swami carries His power and presence in it.

Infact the power of Mrithika has been known during the days of Guru Raghavendra Swamy.
one of the routine work of Guru Raghavendra swamy is to teach vedas and spread bakthi. He will be group of sisyas with him to teach the vedas and travel with him.

One day, during early morning when Guru Raghavendra swamy was taking his bath in cauvery river, one of his diciple came to Guru and informed him that he is going to get married and he needs permission to go to his village and come back. This particular diciple was a very poor and do not have his parents or relatives to help him in his marriage. He has to be on his own. During those days,
while taking bath, Guru usually applies the sand from the river and uses river water to clean the applied sand(Mrithika). When this diciple asked for permission, Guru wiped the Mrithika from his body and gave it to his diciple and blessed him.

Diciple was not sure what to do with the Mrithika but he thought of carrying it with him since Guru might have given this for some reason. While travelling back to his village, on a night, he sat outside a house to have a sleep and start his journey next day. When he was there, he heard a coversion with a father and daughter inside the house. The daughter gave a birth to a baby very recently and they both were crying. From their conversation, the diciple came to know that there is a ghost who will come and pick up the newly born baby. This has happend to their previous babies and both daughter and father were crying and felt the same will happen to this baby as well.

However due to tiredness, the diciple went to sleep. During mid night he heard some sound and he got up and saw a ghost waiting in front of this house. He got afraid, however he firmly holded the Mrithika in the hand and started to chant Guru's name. The ghost asked him that he has something with him which is stopping the ghost to enter the house. He said it is Mrithika of Guru Raghavendra Swamy.

When the ghost tried to enter again, it was thrown back due the the power of Guru Raghavendra Swamy's Mrithika. Diciple of Guru asked the ghost to leave away, however ghost replied to him that it will have to take the baby as per law because the grand father of the baby has made so much of sins and he has to pay for it. So it asked diciple to get away from this house so that it can enter and take the baby. By this time, both the grand-father and daughter heard the conversations and came out and told the diciple that they have face this due to the sins they made in their life and requested diciple to go away. However diciple informed them that how can a ghost do this to a newly born baby and said to them that he has the blessings of Guru Raghavendra swamy and the ghost cannot do anything.

By saying this, he took a small amount of mrithika and throwed it towards the ghost. Within seconds, ghost disappeared. Diciple and others heard just the voice of the ghost which informed them that
it was in ghost form since it did not complete his life as ordered by almightly, however due the power of Guru Raghavendra Swamy's mrithika, it was able to get rid of his ghost form and thanked the diciple and informed the daughter and father that it wont trouble them again.

By hearding this, the family was so happy and gave lot of rewards to diciple which he used for his marriage and came back to Guru to continue his education.

This was not the only instance, even today, devotees of Guru who have Mrithika are seeing the miracles of it irrespective of the size of the problem ( either small or big ).

Devotees usually take a clean bath and pray Guru. After this they take a pinch of Mrithika and mix it with water and drink it as a teertha. Mrithika has enormous power which cures and solves all the problem if we trust and believe on Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy.

Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy knows when to give and what to give to his devotees and we all know he is "Kalpakaviruksha" as rightly said by Sri Appanacharya in Sri Raghavendra Guru Stotram.
Devotees should have trust and pray to Guru soul-heartedly and lead a life in a right way.

As Guru stated, "Without right living, right thinking will not come ".

There is also a history on this Panchamuka face of Pranadevaru ( Lord Hanuman )

Rama and Lakshmana are captured by the rakshasa Mahiravana (or Ahiravan), brother of Ravana, who held them captive in their palace in Patala, the netherworld. Mahiravana keeps them as offerings to his deity. Searching for them, Hanuman reaches Patala, the gates of which are guarded by a young creature called Makardhwaja (known also as Makar-Dhwaja or Magar Dhwaja), who is part reptile and part Vanara.
The story of Makardhwaja's birth is said to be that when Hanuman extinguished his burning tail in the ocean, a drop of his sweat fell into the waters, eventually becoming Makardhwaja, who perceives Hanuman as his father. When Hanuman introduces himself to Makardhwaja, the latter asks his blessings, but fights him to fulfill the task of guarding the gate. Hanuman defeats and imprisons him to gain entry.

Upon entering Patala, Hanuman discovers that to kill Mahiravana, he must simultaneously extinguish five lamps burning in different directions. Hanuman assumes the Panchamukha or five-faced form of Sri Varaha facing north, Sri Narasimha facing south, Sri Garuda facing west, Sri Hayagriva facing the sky and his own facing the east, and blows out the lamps. Hanuman then rescues Rama and Lakshmana. Afterwards, Rama asks Hanuman to crown Makardhwaja king of Patala. Hanuman then instructs Makardhwaja to rule Patala with justice and wisdom.
